Kaltura Tips

  • Before you can use Kaltura for lecture capture the first time, you must enable it in Canvas. Canvas Support has provided an article, How to Activate Your Kaltura Account, or you can contact Canvas Support for assistance with doing this.
  • Canvas Support for Kaltura is at 644-8004. Their web site is HERE
  • The Classroom Support group offers Kaltura support only in FSU Technology-Enhanced Classrooms (TEC), Monday – Friday 7:30am to 9:30pm.

Creating a Kaltura Recording

  1. Open Kaltura Lectura Capture from the desktop.
  2. Check that you see the projector content and the instructor camera in the preview windows.
  3. Check that the audio bar is responding to sound picked up by the microphone (if there is one).
  4. Click Start Recording (the large red button)
  5. Click Pause at any time if desired, and Play (the large red button) to continue your recording.
  6. Click the X to the right of the Record button to cancel your recording.
  7. Click Stop to end the recording.
  8. Enter the title you want for the recording.
  9. Enter your FSUID.
  10. Click Save in the top right hand corner. Your video will be processed and uploaded
to your My Media page in Canvas.

  • All instructional equipment except Blu-ray players (e.g. microphone, computer, document camera, etc.) can be recorded in these classrooms. Kaltura only records the projected content. In rooms with multiple projectors, the left projector is recorded. The following fully lecture capture capable rooms also contain a camera that records the instructor station at the front of the room.
  • PLEASE NOTE: If you record a DVD with Kaltura please play the DVD from the computer (NOT the Blu-ray player) using VLC or another player of your choice. VLC is installed on all TEC computers.
