Connecting a Laptop or Other Portable Device to the Projector

The following information is a short explanation of how to connect personal devices to the AV interfaces located in TEC classrooms.

What adapter is needed for VGA only rooms

Some of our classroom may only be equipped with a VGA connection. If your device does not support VGA connections, you may purchase an adapter from the FSU Book Store or other retail merchants. See image on left.

Where are the cables located? (click images to enlarge)

This small enclosure will contain all the cables you need to connect a laptop or other electronic device.

Available Cable Connections

These rooms are equipped with the following connections (there will be some variation between rooms):
  • HDMI
  • RCA
  • VGA
  • Ethernet
  • Mini Display Port

Example of a Connected Laptop

Here you will note the connected VGA cable and audio cable.
In the event that your mobile device also needs to be plugged in, there is typically a generic power outlet on the desk or close nearby.

How your laptop will appear on the AV Panel.

Touchpanel rooms: Once connected, you will be able to see your laptop in the preview pane of the screen by pressing the "laptop" input button and then "preview" under which ever window you would like to view it in.
In rooms without touchpanels, you will need to press the "laptop" input button on the control panel (located on the desk or in the pull out drawer) and it will display the laptop screen on the monitor.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If your laptop is hooked up but is not showing the screen after the above steps, your laptop may have a "use-as-monitor" button. Typically this button will have two small monitor symbols separated by "/" and may require simultaneously pressing your laptop's function ("Fn").You may need to check your laptop's documentation if you have trouble finding it.
